Location: Hybrid [Remote and Onsite (Nigeria)]
Type: Full-time
Reports to: [Marketing Manager / Video Content Creator / Head of Content]
About the Role
We are looking for a Marketing Writer who can do two things exceptionally well: write persuasive, short-form copy for video scripts and ads, and write in-depth, long-form content for blog posts (up to 5,000 words). You will work closely with our Video Content Creator to draft engaging YouTube and Facebook ad scripts, and independently produce pillar blog posts that educate and rank on search engines. This is a hybrid role for a versatile writer who can switch between “selling” and “teaching” tones.
Responsibilities
Copywriting (Short‑Form, Persuasive)
- Draft video scripts for YouTube (both short-form and long-form up to 10 minutes) in collaboration with the Video Content Creator. Scripts should include: hooks, narrative arcs, calls-to-action, and retention tactics.
- Write Facebook ad copy (primary text, headline, description) that drives clicks and conversions – multiple variations for A/B testing.
- Write YouTube ad scripts (skippable/in-stream) – concise, engaging, with clear value propositions.
- Write captions and hooks for social media videos (TikTok, Reels, Shorts) that stop the scroll.
- Assist the Email Marketing Specialist with subject lines, preview text, and email body copy when needed.
Content Writing (Long‑Form, Educational)
- Write blog posts ranging from 1,500 to 5,000 words – deep dives, how-to guides, listicles, case studies, and thought leadership.
- Optimize blog content for SEO: keyword research, meta descriptions, internal linking, header structure (H1, H2, H3), and readability.
- Repurpose long-form content into shorter formats (e.g., turn a 5,000-word guide into 5 social posts or an email series).
- Maintain a consistent brand voice (educational, authoritative, approachable – as defined).
- Source and cite credible references, data, or research to back up claims.
Collaboration & Workflow
- Work daily with the Video Content Creator to translate video concepts into tight, engaging scripts – iterate based on performance data (e.g., retention graphs).
- Coordinate with the Social Media Manager to align blog topics with social trends and audience questions.
- Receive blog topic briefs from the Marketing Manager (or propose your own based on keyword research).
- Manage your own deadlines using a content calendar (e.g., Notion, Asana, Trello).
Editing & Quality Assurance
- Self-edit for grammar, clarity, tone, and factual accuracy.
- Use tools like Grammarly, Hemingway, or SurferSEO (if provided) to polish drafts.
- Incorporate feedback from stakeholders (Video Creator, Marketing Manager) quickly and professionally.
Requirements
- Proven experience in both copywriting and content writing – portfolio must include:
– At least 2 video scripts (YouTube or Facebook ads) – can be samples or published work.
– At least 2 long-form blog posts (1,500+ words) – preferably with SEO data (rankings, traffic) if available. - Excellent command of English grammar, style, and tone-shifting (persuasive vs. educational).
- Understanding of copywriting frameworks (AIDA, PAS, FAB) and storytelling for video (hooks, retention, CTAs).
- Basic SEO knowledge: keyword research, on-page optimization, meta tags, readability scores.
- Ability to write 5,000-word posts that are well-structured, scannable, and engaging – not fluff.
- Comfortable receiving creative feedback and iterating on scripts.
- Self-starter who can manage multiple projects (short scripts and long blogs) simultaneously.
Nice‑to‑Have (Not Required)
- Experience with AI writing tools (ChatGPT, Jasper, Copy.ai) to accelerate drafting – but final output must be human-quality.
- Familiarity with YouTube analytics (retention curves, click-through rates) to inform script structure.
- Knowledge of Facebook Ads Manager (seeing how copy performs).
- Basic HTML for blog formatting (headings, lists, links).
- Experience with SurferSEO, Clearscope, or Frase for content optimization.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Deliver X video scripts per week (e.g., 5–10) that the Video Content Creator can produce with minimal rewrites.
- Write and publish Y blog posts per month (e.g., 2–4 posts, with at least one being 3,000+ words).
- Achieve or improve blog organic traffic by [Z]% (baseline to be set).
- Receive positive feedback from the Video Content Creator on script clarity, pacing, and audience fit.
- Demonstrate ability to switch between short‑form copy (ads) and long‑form content (blogs) without compromising quality.
Compensation:
-
Salary range: Competitive Monthly rate (#150,000–#300,000/Month depending on experience). Salary Increase for exceptional candidates. Please include your rate or salary expectations in your application.
-
Benefits: [e.g., flexible hours, remote work, paid time off, Unlimited browsing data (office WiFi), constant power supply, health stipend].
-
Payment terms: Monthly / bi-weekly
